Throughout history many religions have been persecuted. Members of the Jewish, Christian and Islamic faiths have all been persecuted or are currently being persecuted. Philadelphia has long been seen as a symbol of independence and freedom. The people of Philadelphia practice many faiths. I selected this image because it shows the leader of one of the largest religions on earth in Philadelphia. When Pope Francis came to Philadelphia in 2015, people of all religions in Philadelphia welcomed the Pope with open arms. I know many people who are not practicing Catholics who participated in the event. I feel that this image represents religious freedom in the United States because it shows a city coming together to welcome the head of a major religious sect, even if not all those welcoming the Pope were members of the Catholic faith.

I'm currently a student at Jefferson university in Philly. I enjoy experiencing the various emotions that can be invoked when mentally placing oneself into the shoes of others. If one grows up in Palestine, Iraq, Myanmar, Egypt, Venezuela or any country, each individual has a unique experience to share and an outlook on life that is shaped by ones experiences. Every person on earth is a member of humanity and deserves to be treated with dignity and respect View all posts by humansightings
